Interference

Interference began as a very different painting. I wanted to experiment with yellow and was creating a composition that felt bright, balanced, and relatively calm. Then, while I was working on it, I discovered that my bank accounts had been hacked.

Everything changed—including the painting.

The anger and frustration I was feeling began to find their way onto the canvas. I had covered the lower portion with modeling paste, creating a heavily textured surface that gave me another way to physically express that emotion. The original composition became increasingly disrupted as I added bold areas of black, red, white, and yellow, along with forceful lines and overlapping marks.

Even the dots became part of that release. I used a circular foam piece dipped in paint and repeatedly struck it against the canvas. I loved the physical act of making those marks—it gave me a way to channel some of the anger I was feeling directly into the painting.

The finished work felt very different from my usual paintings, and people familiar with my art noticed it immediately. But that difference became part of what made the painting meaningful to me. It captured an emotion I don't normally express so directly on canvas.

Interference became a record of an unexpected moment—a painting that began with one intention and was completely transformed by what was happening in my life. What started as an exploration of yellow ultimately became an expression of disruption, frustration, and raw emotion.
