Golden Rhythm

Golden Rhythm grew out of a painting that holds an important place in my artistic journey—my very first commissioned work. I loved the way that painting came together, particularly its movement and palette, and I wanted to explore those elements again in a new painting of my own.

Broad, expressive strokes of black, beige, brown, gray, and gold move vertically across the canvas, creating a rhythm that feels both spontaneous and deliberate. Metallic gold paint and gold and copper leaf appear throughout the composition, catching the light and bringing warmth and luminosity to the more neutral palette.

Although inspired by my first commission, Golden Rhythm developed its own identity as I worked. I wasn’t trying to recreate the original painting. I was returning to something I had enjoyed and allowing it to lead me somewhere new.

That exploration has continued beyond this canvas. I am now working with a large print of Golden Rhythm, embellishing it by hand with gold and copper leaf—a technique I had wanted to experiment with for some time. For me, that continuing evolution is part of the excitement of creating art: one painting often becomes the beginning of another idea.
