“Before Dawn”

Before Dawn was created in the quiet hours around 4 a.m., while I was experimenting with blending and allowing the painting to develop without a predetermined direction. Deep blacks, midnight blues, layered grays, and softened whites gradually emerged, creating an atmosphere that feels suspended somewhere between darkness and light.

As the layers developed, I began to see what looked to me like the profile of a young boy praying. It wasn't something I intentionally painted, and another viewer may see something entirely different. That unexpected discovery became part of what Before Dawn means to me.

Texture and subtle movement run throughout the painting, while areas of darkness and light seem to appear and disappear depending on where the eye settles. There is a quietness to the work, but also a sense that something is stirring beneath the surface.

Like much of my abstract work, Before Dawn doesn't ask the viewer to see what I see. It leaves room for your own interpretation.
