Pulse of Vibrant Lines

Pulse of Vibrant Lines was created during a period when I was beginning to think about developing a collection of paintings. At the time, I believed the paintings within a collection needed to look very much alike, so I intentionally carried many of the colors, lines, and energy of Color Jam into this piece.

Bold layers of pink, purple, blue, and red move across the canvas, while intersecting black, white, and blue lines create structure within the color. I applied the lines with thicker paint, giving them a raised presence and continuing my exploration of linear elements as something recognizable within my work.

What I learned later was just as important as the painting itself. A collection doesn't need to repeat an entire composition. The connection can be much more subtle—a color, a mark, a material, a feeling, or simply a visual language that carries from one painting to another.

Pulse of Vibrant Lines represents that stage of discovery for me. It is closely related to Color Jam, but it also helped me begin to understand how individual paintings can belong together while still having their own identity.
