Fragments of Feeling
Fragments of Feeling began as something entirely different. Beneath this painting is an earlier work that I wasn't happy with. Instead of giving up on the canvas, I painted over it and started again, giving the canvas—and myself—a completely new direction. This painting also marked the first time I experimented with spray paint. I was drawn to the softness and movement it created against the sharper lines, patterns, and graphic elements throughout the composition.
As I worked, I was thinking about my grandson and how I felt at that moment. Words such as LOVE, DREAM, and HAPPINESS found their way onto the canvas, becoming fragments of those emotions rather than simply decorative elements. Near the bottom, I added a small red heart especially for my grandson—a quiet, personal symbol within the painting.
For me, Fragments of Feeling is about how emotions rarely exist alone. Love, hope, happiness, memories, and dreams overlap and interrupt one another, just as the marks and words do within the painting. What began as a canvas I wasn't satisfied with ultimately became something far more personal.
Set in a black floating frame makes it a piece of statement art for modern interiors.
