Color Jam

Color Jam marks an important point in my development as an artist. While creating this painting, I began thinking more deliberately about how I could leave something of myself in each piece—a recognizable element or gesture that could become part of my artistic voice.

Bold layers of pink, purple, blue, and red create an energetic background, while intersecting lines move across the canvas in black, white, and blue. I used thicker paint for the lines, giving them a raised presence and allowing them to become more than simply a graphic element.

Those lines became especially meaningful to me. They brought structure to the freedom of the color while also beginning to represent something personal—a visual mark that could connect one painting to another without making any two works the same.

Color Jam is energetic and playful, but for me it also represents discovery: the point when I began thinking not only about what I was painting, but about what makes a painting unmistakably mine.
